Pitsea's Voice in Basildon
Gavin was elected as the Labour Councillor for Pitsea North West in 2012 when he ousted the incumbent Conservative, Andrew Baggott. Following his election, Gavin played an influential role in a number of campaigns, including driving forward with the recladding of the Felmores estate.
In 2013 he was selected by the Labour Party to stand for parliament in the General Election in the seat of Basildon and Billericay, where he increased Labour's vote.
Following the election in 2015 Gavin was elected Leader of the Basildon Labour Group. As Leader of the Opposition he chaired the Infrastructure and Community committee, winning re-election to the Council in 2016.
In May 2017 he became the Leader of Basildon Borough Council, in a hung council. He served as Leader until May 2018 and is now the Leader of the Opposition.
Gavin is engaged to his fiancee Emma, and they travel together in his spare time. Gavin is also an ardent Sunderland AFC supporter and gets to as many games each season as possible. Every two years Gavin travels to the USA to campaign with the Democrats in the Presidential and Midterm elections as America politics is one of Gavin's passions.
